The growing might of scientific activity truly reflects the interest in know-how and the need for applied knowledge. The by-products of industrialisation – an affluent society, philanthropists and enthusiasts – have all played their part.
LInstitutions, private initiatives and individual endeavours have forged a manifestly universal work. However, this host of contributions made in Catalonia or by Catalan people can only be understood in terms of its contribution to knowledge.
The endeavours made in Catalonia date back to ancient times and reflect the pre-eminence nowadays held by science, so evident in universities, research centres and private initiatives.
