Emili Huguet del Villar is the author of a highly personal work, which he wrote almost entirely of his own accord, independently of academic institutions. He excelled in geography, a science which encouraged his intellectual project on the intricate relationships between humankind and the environment. In this respect, he has made internationally acknowledged contributions in the field of plant ecology and edaphology. He created the first map on the soils of the Lusitano-Iberian Peninsula (1937). His most influential follower was the botanist Josep Cuatrecasas who, like him, went into exile following the Spanish Civil War.
