Saint George's Day

Sant Jordi
Once again Saint George's Day, the day of the patron saint of Catalonia, books and roses has been celebrated. The main Catalan institutions have opened their doors to the public, public readings have been held of works by the writer Mercè Rodoreda, coinciding with the centenary of her birth, and the streets of all towns and villages have been filled with book and rose stalls.

Plan to Promote Reading

Highlights include the free newspaper and magazine subscriptions for 170,000 young people aged 18 or the distribution on public transport of the first chapters of new books.



A novel about child murder wins the Crims de Tinta prize

The novel, entitled "La mala dona" (The Bad Woman) by the criminologist Marc Pastor, is based on a real case that happened in Barcelona at the beginning of the last century. The prize amounts to 25,000 euros and will be presented at the Les Esquadres Day celebrations on 24 April.
