RECOVERING THE HISTORICAL RECORD
Producing the first history of the Catalan "casals" from the 19th century to the present
This project seeks to help recover and preserve the history of all those Catalans who, through the organisations they created outside Catalonia, played a fundamental role in preserving and spreading Catalan culture and knowledge about Catalonia. The project co-ordinators, Prof. Antoni Segura from the University of Barcelona and Prof. Josep Mª Solé i Sabater from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, are carrying out this project in collaboration with the Centre for Historical Studies at the University of Barcelona (UB).
Radio programme "Veus de l'exili" (Voices from Exile)
The Generalitat of Catalonia has collaborated with Catalunya Ràdio and the University of Barcelona (UB) in making this programme that brings together, in an audio format, the testimony of those people forced into exile in 1939. It is based on interviews recorded during and since the summer of 2005 by professor Josep Mª Figueres, the programme co-ordinator.

Television programme "Els exilis" (Exiles) The Generalitat of Catalonia has collaborated with Televisió de Catalunya in making this programme, which brings together the testimony of those people forced into exile in 1939.

Electronic storage of files and documents The aim of this agreement is for the Arxivers Sense Fronteres (Archivists Without Frontiers) to carry out a preliminary study of the archives and document collections of the following Catalan communities abroad: the 'Casal Català' of Montevideo (Uruguay), the 'Casal de Catalunya' of Buenos Aires and the 'Centre Català' of Rosario (Argentina), the 'Orfeó Català of Mexico and the 'Societat de Beneficència de Naturals i Descendents de Catalunya' of Havana (Cuba).
The restoration and renovation of historic community centres.
The Department for Catalan Communities Abroad in Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation offers assistance to Catalan communities abroad to finance restoration work on their historic community centres. The promotion of Catalonia
General call for applications for subsidies to Catalan Communities Abroad
Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation annually calls for applications for subsidies for ordinary expenses, cultural events promoting Catalan culture, subsidies for social welfare, the renovation and/or restoration work on centres and the acquisition of resources for Catalan communities abroad.

Deadline for current subsidies: March 6th 2006 (applications were closed on April 7th 2006) Order GAP/67/2006, dated February 23rd, approving the rules for aid to Catalan communities abroad to finance ordinary expenses and extraordinary society and/or cultural events, and establishing the corresponding call for applications for 2006.
Order GAP/66/2006, dated February 24th, calling for applications for aid to Catalan communities abroad to meet needs of a social nature.
Order GAP/65/2006, dated February 24th, calling for applications for aid to Catalan communities abroad to finance renovation or restoration work on their community centres, as well as for acquiring new furnishings for their centres.

Subsidies organising Catalan courses The Department of the CCA of Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation offers subsidies to officially recognised Catalan Communities Abroad outside Catalan speaking to organise courses specifically for learning Catalan. These subsidies are managed via the Ramon Llull Institute.
Aim: Courses that take place totally or partially during the year of application at beginner, elementary, intermediate, upper intermediate or advanced level, corresponding to the levels defined by the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) in line with the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment.
Who can apply: Catalan Communities Abroad officially recognised by the Generalitat of Catalonia and outside the Catalan linguistic area which hold training programmes in the Catalan language.
How to apply: Fill in and send the relevant form to the Ramon Llull Institute. The form can be obtained from the Institute itself, its website www.llull.cat or from the website of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat of Catalonia, www.gencat.cat.

"Dalí, 1904-2004" exhibition
The touring exhibition "Dalí, 1904-2004" has been made available to Catalan communities abroad by Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation.
Technical details: The exhibition is composed of 25 plates (vertical laser prints on canvas, 100cm high x 70cm wide), which are photographic reproductions of works by Salvador Dalí, and four introductory plates in each language (Catalan, Spanish, English and French). The plates are unframed and unmounted.
Aim: To help organise touring cultural events at Catalan communities abroad in the same geographical area (South America, North America, etc.) Once sent to the first Catalan community in a particular area, the different communities themselves coordinate the organisation of the exhibition in their respective cities.
Funding: Expenses related to transport and the organisation of the exhibition are subsidised through a prior application within the framework of the system of subsidies for Catalan communities abroad.
Who can apply?Those Catalan communities abroad officially recognised by the Generalitat of Catalonia.
"Gaudí, un univers" (Gaudí, a universe) exhibition
The touring exhibition "Gaudí, un univers" has been made available to Catalan communities abroad by Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation.
Technical details: The exhibition is made up of twenty-two 70cm x 55cm panels with photographs of eleven works by Gaudí and four introductory panels for each language (Catalan, Spanish, English and French). The panels are ready to hang.
Aim: To help organise cultural events for Catalan communities abroad.
Funding: Expenses related to transport and the organisation of the exhibition are subsidised through a prior application within the framework of the system of subsidies for Catalan communities abroad.
Who can apply?Catalan communities abroad officially recognised by the Generalitat of Catalonia.
Catalonia News The publication entitled Catalonia News covers activities related to Catalan society and enjoys on the collaboration of independent professionals This publication prioritises events outside Catalonia and there is also room for coverage of Catalan creative activity and traditions with a universal appeal.

Getting young people involved
The programme "Catalonia for young people in Catalan Communities Abroad"
A programme aimed at encouraging young members of CCAs to stay for three weeks in Catalonia.
Objectives: To allow young members of CCAs to directly experience different aspects of Catalonia (historical, cultural, geographical, political, etc.). To enable young people from CCAs to meet one another. To bring about increased commitment from young people to the CCAs they represent. To train participants in areas relevant to the CCAs.
Who can take part? Young people who have been members of a CCA for at least one year and are aged between 18 and 30 at the time of their taking part in the programme. They will need to understand written and spoken Catalan as this is the language used in training sessions and visits during their stay. The maximum is three participants from each CCA.
How to apply: Applications need to be sent to the board of the CCA in question. The board of the CCA will send all the applications together with the CCA's report to the Department of Catalan Communities Abroad at Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation. The relevant personnel from the department will get in touch with the applicants to ensure they fulfil the programme's entry requirements.
Application procedure: The programme takes place twice yearly, once in winter (January and February) and again in the summer (July). Places are allocated three months before the start of each period through the Catalan communities and this website.
Winter 2007: Applications are open from October 23rd 2006 to November 30th 2006. Applicants will be contacted in December 2006.

Department of CCAs, Catalan Cooperation and Development Agency
Grant programme for postgraduate courses (BCC)
The Generalitat of Catalonia offers this grant programme aimed at young members of Catalan communities abroad, in accordance with Act 18/1996, dated 27th December, concerning relationships with Catalan communities abroad. This programme was set up jointly by Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation of the Presidential Department and the General Directorate of Research of the Department of Education and Universities.
Aim: To award grants to young members of Catalan Communities Abroad to extend their studies, take part in postgraduate or masters programmes and carry out post-doctoral internships in Catalonia.
Application guidelines: Any sphere of study, whether scientific, technical or humanities.
Who can take part? Young people who have been members of a CCA for at least one and a half years.
a) To broaden their studies or to do postgraduate or masters courses, applicants must be university graduates or the equivalent and must have obtained their qualification outside Catalonia. Candidates must have been previously accepted for the course in question.
b) For post-doctoral internships, candidates must be young researchers or lecturers who have gained their doctorate in the last five years. Applicants must have been previously accepted by the university department, institution or research centre where they wish to carry out their post-doctoral internship.
Time needed to complete the walk: From four to twelve months. Applications may be made to renew the grant for a maximum period equal to the length of the stay previously granted. Internships in Catalonia must begin during the academic year corresponding to the year in which the application was made and must end before December 31st the following year.

Assistance for internships at Catalan Communities Abroad (ACC)
Since 2005 the Presidential Department and the Inter-University Council of Catalonia (CIC), with the support of the Agency for the Management of University and Research Aid (AGAUR), have offered assistance to encourage people living in Catalonia to have contact with CCAs and help them in their task of promoting Catalonia abroad.
Aim: Programming, giving or encouraging cultural events. Encouraging activities for young people and their presence in these Catalan communities. The spread and promotion of Catalan culture. The spread and promotion of Catalan public universities. Other activities specified in the rules for the respective application procedure.
Time needed to complete the walk: Nine months, counted from the date of arrival in the country of destination.
Who can take part? People who are officially resident in Catalonia and that fulfil the application requirements.

Youth Forum
In 2006 the Department of CCAs of the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation organised a face-to-face working party of young people from CCAs for the first time, with the aim of encouraging direct contact, an exchange of experiences and sharing of resources between the members of different organisations from all over the world. Other grants and aid available to members of Catalan communities
The Agency for the Management of University and Research Aid (AGAUR) manages grant and aid programmes in which the members of officially recognised CCAs can take part: International Cooperation and Development Grants (DEBEQ), the fund for post-doctoral aid within the Beatriu de Pinós (BP) programme, and pre-doctoral grants for personal research training (FI).

Encouraging the use of information and communication technology
.cat domain name for CCAs
Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation offers a .cat domain name to officially recognised CCAs. This domain name corresponds to the following format http://www.ccCityName.cat (e.g. http://www.ccBerlin.cat, http://www.ccNewYork.cat).
"e-Catalunya exterior"
The Internet portal "Catalunya exterior" is part of the eCatlunya platform, a project by the Generalitat of Catalonia to put Catalans and those interested in Catalonia in touch with each other all round the world. It also provides CCAs with a useful tool that allows them to share resources and experiences with other organisations, in the same region or globally.

Discount on "Televisió de Catalunya internacional" (TVCi)
The Generalitat of Catalonia helps members of officially recognised CCAs to receive Catalan television via the Internet. It offers a discount of 50% on subscriptions to the high resolution service "3 a la carta" (access to programming for which Televisió de Catalunya has broadcasting rights).
Who can apply: Members of officially recognised CCAs who can prove their membership through the payment of the subscription established by the CCA in question.

The Department of CCAs of Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation organises different face-to-face meetings of the Catalan Communities Abroad with the aim of encouraging direct contact, an exchange of experiences and sharing of resources between the members of different organisations from all over the world. Sending Catalan periodicals
Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation sends, monthly and free of charge, a collection of different publications to those Catalan Communities Abroad with a centre that is open to the public or which have signed agreements with local libraries.
These include magazines on current affairs (El Temps), the economy (Dossier Econòmic), history (Sàpiens), tourism (Descobrir Catalunya), gastronomy (Descobrir Cuina), music (Enderrock) and children's magazines (Tatano, Cavall Fort).
Aim:To bring members of CCAs around the world closer to the current economic, cultural and social situation in Catalonia.
Aid for taking part in the 5th National Senior Citizens' Congress
The 5th National Senior Citizens' Congress, organised by the Social Welfare and Family Affairs Department and the Council for the Elderly of Catalonia, took place from October 4th - October 6th 2006. The aims of the Congress were to contribute to our understanding of the new situation for older people in Catalonia, a better understanding of their needs and greater recognition of their real independence.
Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation awards aid equivalent to 100% of the transport costs of one person from each CCA. The CCA needs to make the application for the transport costs within the 2006 subsidy application period, using form A06 as an application for a subsidy for ordinary expenditure and ordinary activities. The Social Welfare and Family Affairs Department covers the board and lodge.
Aim: To enable one person from each CCA to take part in the 5th National Senior Citizens' Congress.
Who can take part? People over 60 years of age who are members of an officially recognised CCA.
Time needed to complete the walk: For one person sent by the CCA to stay in Catalonia from October 3rd - 7th 2006.

Assistance Plan for Returning Emigrants
The Assistance Plan for Returning Emigrants is made up of a series of measures to facilitate the return and integration into society and employment of Catalans or their descendants who, for whatever reason, emigrated from Catalonia.
