Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation to manage support policies for communities abroad.

Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation (ACCD) will manage support policies for CCAs, according to an agreement adopted by the Government at a meeting that took place on May 30th. The Agency, until now part of the Department of Governance and Public Administration, will fall under the Presidential Department, and takes over international affairs within the Government.

This restructuring brings with it the abolition of the Secretariat for International Affairs, until now was in charge of the ACCD. Àlex Masllorens has been appointed as director of the Agency and replaces David Minoves in this position.

The new director of Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation was born in Barcelona in 1956. He is an Information Science graduate and has worked as a journalist for Avui and El Correo Catalan, Televisión Española and for the company La Productora, of which he was Managing Director.

He is currently a member of the Parliament of Catalonia as part of the Socialist-Citizens for Change group and was a member of the committee that drafted the new Statute of Autonomy for Catalonia. He is spokesperson for the Justice Commission and a member of the Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Solidarity committees.

Among others, he has tabled the laws of Cooperation for Development and of Foundations, as well as the Overall Cooperation Plan 2003/2006. He was member of the first Immigration Consultants Council and Cooperation and Development Council of the Generalitat of Catalonia.

He currently sits on the Board of the Catalan Committee of ACNUR. He has been a member of the Catalan Federation of NGO's for Development and vice-president of Justice and Peace. He was also director of the Department of 'Migració de Cáritas' of Barcelona.
