Catalan workshops in Paranà schools (Argentina)
The two schools which make up the Col·legi Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra in Paraná, in the province of Entre Ríos, will hold two Catalan workshops for infants and teenagers thanks to an agreement between the school and Paraná's Casal de Catalunya, this year celebrating its 17th anniversary. The two schools are Private School no. 156 (primary) and Private Institute no. 164 (secondary).
This initiative is in addition to the usual Catalan courses given for 9 years now by the Ramon Llull Department of the Casal de Catalunya in Paraná. The workshops are organised and run by the Ramon Llull Department of the Casal de Catalunya, and are given by teachers from the Casal and form part of the school's curriculum as optional workshops.
With this project, the Paraná Casal de Catalunya has opened up a new course of action of primary importance in the region and has made the learning of Catalan part of the region's formal education system, something that has never happened before, at least in the Entre Ríos province.
A few days ago, students from the school visited the Casal to get a better understanding of some aspects of Catalan culture and they enthusiastically watched a demonstration of human castles by the group Castells de Foc. The boys and girls in the Catalan workshop were invited to an afternoon showing (with the typical chocolate and 'xurros' or doughnuts) of the well-known cartoon 'Capelito'.
