Young Catalans abroad will work together in a network to promote Catalonia.
Young Catalans living abroad have decided to work together in a network to give impetus to the promotion of Catalonia in their countries. This was one of the outcomes of the CCA Youth Forum that took place between June 13th and 17th in Puigcerdà. The Presidential Department of the Generalitat, which organised the Forum, has committed itself to giving them support and advice.
Almost 40 delegates representing more than 20 communities from 12 countries around the world took part in the Forum, organised with the collaboration of Puigcerdà council and Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat. In the closing ceremony, the head of the CCAs and director of Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation, Àlex Masllorens, promised to "give maximum resources to a network of young people that have in common the excitement and will to work for organisations that have, amongst their aims, the promotion of Catalan culture, traditions and festivals". He added that the Forum had given them the chance to get to know each other, relate to each other "and to push forward projects, initiatives and exchanges of experiences that will enrich their work. For this, you will always find our support."
Through the Forum, the aim of the government of the Generalitat was to address a concern expressed by the CCAs: the need to involve young people in the CCAs to bring new blood into the centres.
Over the course of the Forum the young people, all of them members of CCAs, received training in the management of cultural organisations. They had the chance to get to know different aspects related to youth policies, finances, the management of cultural (traditional and popular) events, the use of new technology, financial aid for university studies and teaching Catalan.
Delegates were able to go to La Patum at Berga, and were guests of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat of Catalonia on a visit to the Vall de Núria. |
