Catalunya Ràdio relates stories of Catalan exile.

This summer provides an excellent opportunity to find out about and remember the experiences of thousands of Catalans who were forced to flee into exile because of the Civil War. The public broadcaster Catalunya Ràdio will broadcast the programme "Veus de l'exili" (Voices from Exile), the first radio project of its kind to give a voice to those who had to flee.

In these programmes, sponsored by the Support Programme for CCAs of the Presidential Department of the Generalitat, more than 100 voices of both those who experienced exile personally and their descendants, bear witness to their experience of exile. Among them are many people now linked to one CCA or another. Like Agustí Bartra Jr., for example, or the daughter of Bartomeu Costa Amic, or Glòria Artís, daughter of Tísner, or Marcel·lí Garriga who was interned in a Nazi concentration camp. From Mexico the voices of Maria Lluïsa Galy, granddaughter of president Lluís Companys, of Agustí Sal Cornadó and Ramon Xirau can be heard. From Chile come the testimonies of Xavier Benguerel, Montserrat Juliò and Cristian Aguadé.

"Veus de l'Exili" (Voices from Exile) is broadcast at 10pm and 11pm Monday to Friday by Catalunya Ràdio until September 1st, but is also accessible on the Internet at any time. It can be listened to live or later at the website:

The programme consists of 35 episodes reflecting different aspects of the cultural, political and everyday life of Catalans around the world: letters, poems, documents... All to try and find the soul of Catalan cultural and political activity during the hardest years of Franco's regime.

It also comprises a homage to humanitarian effort through the extremely varied personal stories that bear witness to a desire to live and, at the same time, the will to fight for freedom and justice.

The programme is directed and presented by Eulàlia Ferrer with Josep Maria Figueres as historical adviser. It was previously broadcast by Catalunya Cultura but has since gained five previously unbroadcast episodes.

Catalunya Informació will also broadcast mini-documentaries with the biographical profiles of various exiles.
