São Paulo welcomes the IV Catalan Cinema Festival
This summer, once again the São Paulo Cultural Centre is organising a festival of Catalan cinema. From August 1st - 6th three films will be shown daily, at different times and all free of charge. These are all recent films that have won awards at national and international film festivals.
With the collaboration of the Associação Cultural Catalonia, the 4th Catalan Film Festival will bring together movies on different subjects but without losing sight of what they have in common: Catalan directors, actors or producers.
Films as diverse as Tapas , La camarera del Titanic , Seres queridos and La ciudad de los prodigios fill the programming this year. Promoting Catalan artists and popularising Barcelona as a place to make movies are the main criteria for choosing these films.
The festival organisers expect more than 50 people a day during the course of the week. The cultural director of the association, Miquel Serra, speaking about the festival's development, states that "every year it gets a bigger and better reception". On the second day of the festival, Serra, a philosophy and theology graduate, will give a talk about the history of Catalan cinema before showing Juana la loca .
The CCAs and the Presidential Department are supporting this initiative at the São Paulo Cultural Centre.
