Awareness of the life and culture of Catalonia will be enhanced by the Catalans of South America.
The boards of the Catalan Communities of the 'Cono Sur' or Southern Cone of South America will meet in Argentina on 5th and 6th of August to discuss ways of enhancing awareness of Catalan culture and life in their countries. This meeting will be held in the city of La Plata.
The Southern Cone Communities have been working for decades on raising the awareness of Catalonia in this part of the American continent. Nonetheless, they now want to increase their efforts to improve people's acquaintance with Catalonia. That is why they have decided to get together to discuss how to rise to the challenges of the future.
They will be doing so as part of a workshop on skills for running cultural organisations, which will enable them to compare experiences and share management tools for making the most of the available resources. Sessions will be run on planning activities, finance, networking, and social and cultural integration strategies.
Furthermore, the head of the Presidential Department's Support Programme for Catalan Communities Abroad, Rafel Caballeria, will also be taking part, along with the expert Elena RodrÃguez-Espinar, in order to assess a working plan for the future, aimed at establishing forms of cooperation and the organisation of joint activities.
The Southern Cone Network is made up of 29 Communities: 17 in Argentina, three in Brazil, four in Chile, three in Ecuador, one in Paraguay, one in Peru and two in Uruguay.
The Catalan Communities Abroad (CCAs) have now become reception points for Catalans and those interested in Catalonia who live abroad, while also acting as centres for information and promotion concerning Catalonia all over the world. There are now 114 centres and casals (cultural centres) recognised as CCAs, dotted around 38 countries on five continents. The Presidential Department's CCE Support Programme lends its backing in helping to spread awareness of Catalonia abroad.
