| For the first time Catalans from around the world can take part in the Senior Citizens' Congress
Francesc Soler i Rosanas hasn't come back to Catalonia in fifty years. Other Catalans like him will be coming back to their homeland, which they haven't seen for many a long year, in order to take part in the Senior Citizens' Congress. They will be there to explain to other elderly people the work they do on raising the awareness of Catalonia abroad.
The Senior Citizens' Congress will be attended by 45 delegates from Catalan Communities Abroad, these being the civil associations that spread Catalan culture outside Catalonia. The delegates come from organisations in various countries and continents: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Switzerland, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
This initiative was made possible through joint support from the Social Welfare and Family Affairs Department and the Presidential Department, channelled through the Support Area for Catalan Communities Abroad, arranged to enable delegates living abroad to attend the Congress.
The Catalan Communities Abroad (CCAs) have now become reception points for Catalans and those interested in Catalonia who live abroad, while also acting as centres for information and promotion concerning Catalonia all over the world. There are now 114 centres and casals (cultural centres) recognised as CCAs, dotted around 38 countries on five continents. The Presidential Department's CCE Support Programme lends its backing in helping to spread awareness of Catalonia abroad.
