Ernest Maragall i Mira

Born in Barcelona in 1943, he is an economist, a Public Administration official and IT analyst.

Between 1958 and 1970 he worked in the field of advertising and marketing. From 1970 to 1979 he carried out tasks as an IT analyst at Barcelona City Council and as an economist on the Technical Projects Cabinet at Barcelona City Council.

He is the manager of the Cartographic Institute of Barcelona S.A. a private municipal company (ICB S.A. Spm) and director general of the Municipal Computing Institute (IMI) of Barcelona City Council.

In October 1997 he became a town councillor for Public Revenue and Civil Service. He is president of Sant Andreu District Council.

Since July 1999 he has been a town councillor for the Presidency and the Treasury. He is president of the Municipal Computing Institute, president of the Municipal Treasury Institute, vice-president of the Civil Service Commission of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, vice-president of the Board of Directors of Localret, Barcelona City Council representative on the Federation of Municipalities of Catalonia and vice-president of the Barcelona Municipal Institute of Education.

Between July 2001 and June 2003 he was a spokesperson for the Municipal Government of Barcelona City Council. In December 2003 he is appointed secretary of the Generalitat Government, a post he held until September 2006.

He was a founder of the PSC (Congress) in 1976, and in 1977 he was a member of PSC's Barcelona executive and he is currently a member of PSC's Executive Commission.
