The current carillon of the Palau de la Generalitat has 49 bells and weighs a total of 4,898 kilos. This number of bells, covering a tonal range of 4 octaves, gives it the status of a concert carillon.

It was constructed by the firm Petit & Fritsen of Aarle-Rixtel (Holland) and inaugurated on December 21, 1976, a few months before the re-establishment of the Generalitat of Catalonia.

The carillon, singular sonorous instrument, can interpret all kinds of musical pieces written expressly for it, as well as adaptations of pieces in any genre.
