St. George’s Hall
St. George’s Hall (XVI-XVIIc.),
with historical and allegorical
paintings about Catalonia (1928)
The part of the Palau that gives onto the Plaça de Sant Jaume,
communicating with the Gothic gallery of the mediaeval building,
houses this hall used for official receptions.
The hall is topped by a dome, visible from Plaça de Sant Jaume,
because in the Renaissance complex designed by Pere Blai,
this was originally planned as a new chapel to replace the Gothic one.
It is structured as three naves separated by large pillars.
At present, the walls are covered by mural paintings of
historical themes, dating from the first third of the XX century.
Chandelier of the St. George’s Hall The enormous chandelier
endows the solemn events and civic, political and cultural
functions of Catalan life with elegance.
