Institut Català de la Salut
The Catalan Institute of Health (ICS) is the main public provider of health services in Catalonia. The ICS is a pioneer in its three basic lines of activity: Health Care (the main of them), Research and Teaching.
The ICS is composed of 8 Hospitals and 470 Primary Care Units located along the whole catalan territory.
More than 38.000 professionals work at ICS.The ICS' hospitals offer 32% of the beds that are available at Catalan Public Hospital Network (XHUP) and 3 of the five high technology hospitals in Catalonia are from the ICS (Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron, Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge and Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol de Badalona). The Primary Care Units consist of Primary Care teams, Urgency services, Permanent Assistance Centres, Sexual and Reproduction health, Mental health Services, Image diagnostic Services, etc.
The ICS' budget to 2006 is 2.300 millions of euros, a 6'8% growth from last year. This budget is approved on a yearly basis by the Parliament of Catalonia. The ICS carry out more than 50 millions health-care interventions:
