Adrianna Ianora es ecóloga de zooplánctones en la Estación Zoológica de Nápoles, Italia, desde 1983 y directora de investigación del Laboratorio Ecofisiológico de la Estación Ecológica desde 1998. Se licenció en la McGill University de Montreal y posteriormente se graduó Laurea Cum Laude en la Universidad de Nápoles.

La profesora ejerce o ha ejercido las siguientes funciones:

• Miembro de la Junta Editorial del Journal of Plankton Research (1996-actualidad)
• Miembro de la Junta Editorial de la revista Scientia Marina (2001-actualidad)

• Miembro del Comité de Dirección de la EU Network of Excellence MarBEF (Funcionamiento de la Biodiversidad y el Ecosistema Marino); mánager del grupo de trabajo sobre actividades y formación; coordinadora del proyecto de investigación ROSEMEB (Papel de los Metabolitos Secundarios en la Biodiversidad del Ecosistema).
• Investigadora principal de la EU Network of Excellence EUROCEAN y miembro del Comité de Formación de este centro.
• Miembro de la Junta ejecutiva de la MARS EU Network of Marine Research Stations.

Investigación:

La doctora Ianora trabaja en las áreas de ecología química microalgal y ecología de "copépodo", reproducción, desarrollo, nutrición y fisiología. El laboratorio donde trabaja utiliza un enfoque integrativo para estudiar las interacciones entre las plantas y los predadores en las comunidades marinas de plancton, entendiendo el papel de las defensas químicas en las interacciones bióticas.

Actualmente, la doctora Ianora está estudiando los efectos de las defensas químicas de los fitoplánctones como los aldehídos poliinsaturados producidos por algunas especies tóxicas.

Adrianna Ianora es responsable de la coordinación de las actividades del proyecto de investigación en química ecológica ROSEMEB de la EU Network of Excellence MarBEF, y miembro del Comité PhD de la Open University en el SZN desde 2001 y coordinadora de los cursos de ecología.
