I will soon be a father. How does Law 3/2007 of 22 March on effective equality for men and women affect me?

Paternity leave, which is independent of maternity leave, allows you 13 days off, plus the two pre-existing days. Paternity leave can be taken full-time or part-time, though with the prior agreement of the employers. The leave period will be extended to 4 weeks when this Law has been on the statute books for 6 years.





I am the owner of a business. I would like to know how Law 3/2007 of 22 March on effective equality for men and women affects me in terms of paying Social Security contributions during my employees' maternity and paternity leave periods. 

Under the new Equal Opportunities Law, companies are exempt from paying Social Security contributions for employees on maternity or paternity leave.





 
I have a 6-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son. Can I shorten my working day to look after them? How does Law 3/2007 of 22 March on effective equality for men and women cover reconciling one's private life with one's working life?

Law 3/2007 provides for the right to reduce one's working day (and salary) by a minimum of 12.5% and a maximum of 50% for acting as the legal guardian of a person under the age of 8 or one suffering from a disability and not engaged in any remunerated activity.
 
It is also possible to take time off to look after a child under 2 years of age. This time off can be taken at intervals.
 
Employees have the right to adapt the duration and timetable of their working day to reconcile their private and their working lives under the terms agreed in the relevant Collective Bargaining Agreement or other agreements reached with their employers.





 


How does Law 3/2007, of 22 March on effective equality for men and women affect the civil service?

- Civil service bodies must assure equality in access to public employment and in the advancement of their employees' professional careers.

- They must facilitate reconciling their employees' private and working lives.

- The must encourage training in equality .

- They must foster a balance between men and women in recruitment and assessment bodies .

- They must establish effective protection measures against sexual harassment or harassment based on gender.

- They must establish effective measures to eliminate wage discrimination, whether direct or indirect, on grounds of sex.





 

How does Law 3/2007 of 22 March affect public subsidies?

- It makes it possible for the conditions governing subsidies controlled by public authorities to include among the assessment factors the performance of entities applying for subsidies in implementing equality of opportunities effectively.

- In that contextassessment factors may include, among others: measures for reconciling private and working lives; corporate social responsibility, and the company having been granted an equal-treatment award.
