Catalonia, land
of contrast.
Catalonia is a small country with six million inhabitants, over one
thousand years of history and its own culture and language
which have gone to build up its unique personality.
Visitors to Catalonia will find all the variety of the landscapes and
vegetation of Europe. The country boasts 650,000 hectares of
protected natural areas and ten natural parks distributed the
length and breadth of the territory, from the Mediterranean
region of the Empordà Wetlands or the Ebro Delta to the Aïguestortes
- Sant Maurici or Cadí - Moixeró National Parks in the
Pyrenees. All this, as well as 580 kilometres of coastline and
over 290 beaches and coves.
Some 5,000 kilometres of well-signposted long-distance footpaths,
connected to the European and Peninsular networks. An
extensive system of secondary roads, forest tracks and country
paths providing the ideal conditions for such activities as
hiking, cyclotourism and horseriding.
Those who seek the pleasure of rest and relaxation, moreover, will find
accommodation and restaurants of the highest quality in
Catalonia. Enjoying a holiday in the countryside or relaxing
for a few days far from the noise of the great cities has
become one of the most successful and popular of tourist
options in recent years.
To all this we must add the Mediterranean climate of Catalonia,
particularly benign, with average annual temperatures of
between 15° and 20° C, with mild winters and summers which
are not too hot.
All those who seek contact with natural surroundings will take a
suitcaseful of emotions and experiences home with them. |
